"Herkimer Diamonds" is the name given to the doubly terminated quartz crystals found in Herkimer County, New York, and surrounding areas. They are close to five hundred million years old. The doubly-terminated crystals result from the fact they have little to no contact with their host rock, the dolestone. They are naturally faceted, with 18 facets and two points. Although named for Herkimer County in New York, the same type of crystals has been found in a variety of other locations, including Arizona, Afghanistan, Norway, Ukraine, and China.

Herkimer Diamonds have been used for a variety of purposes over the centuries. When initially discovered, they were used for amulets, tools, and trading but fell out of favor when glass beads were introduced by the Europeans. Some people believe they have a spiritual energy and can help with physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. They can also be used to produce beautiful jewelry, as demonstrated by this necklace and these earrings.
